Learning to ride bikes- Nursery to Year 6
We are delighted to celebrate a fantastic whole-school achievement: every child from Nursery to Year 6 has learned to ride a bike! This has been a wonderful journey of confidence-building, perseverance and fun.
Our youngest pupils in Nursery and Reception began their cycling adventure using balance bikes, helping them to develop balance and coordination before confidently progressing onto bikes with pedals.
In Key Stage 1, children focused on improving their cycling style and confidence, practising smooth starts, controlled stopping and steady riding while enjoying the freedom of being on two wheels.
Year 3 and Year 4 took on a range of bike challenges, testing their skills through fun and purposeful activities designed to improve control, agility and resilience.
For our oldest pupils, Year 5 and Year 6, the focus moved beyond school grounds as they completed Bikeability training. This vital programme taught them how to ride safely on the roads, understand traffic awareness and develop the skills needed to be responsible, confident cyclists in the wider community.
Glow Dodgeball
All pupils from Nursery to Year 6 took part in an exciting Glow Dodgeball session—and what a hit it was! The hall was glowing, the music was pumping and the energy levels were sky‑high. Everyone had lots of fun dodging, throwing and cheering each other on. It was a very active session and, as expected, very sweaty, with lots of smiles all round! A fantastic way to keep active and enjoy sport together across the whole school.
Fencing- Afterschool Club
Our afterschool fencing club has had a fantastic five-week programme, giving pupils the opportunity to learn and develop new skills in this exciting sport. Children showed great focus, coordination and determination as they practised footwork, technique and control. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow week by week, and the sessions have been thoroughly enjoyed by everyone involved. A brilliant experience and a big well done to all our young fencers!
Construction Club
Construction club has been a real hit this year with a variety of activities. We have used construction toys to build different things, we then designed and made shelters using lolly sticks and matchsticks. This week we took the fun outside to construct dens using any resources that they could find.
At St William's we recognise that the children have different interests and we try and encompass these in our extra curricular timetable for the year.
Construction Club goes outdoors!
Our Construction Club went big this term! Children were given access to all of our resources and challenged to build large-scale dens that were strong enough to fit people inside and designed to stay dry. The creativity on display was fantastic, with pupils planning, problem‑solving and adapting their ideas as they built. Most impressive of all was the great teamwork, as children worked together, shared ideas and supported one another to bring their designs to life. A brilliant and imaginative club enjoyed by everyone involved!
Congratulations to the children who represented the school in the Tag Rugby Competiton.
The children were lucky to have Mr Cadwallader come down and run a Glow Dodgeball session for all ages. The children had lots of fun!!

The children have thoroughly enjoyed a 5 week basketball afterschool club. I was very impressed with the level of skill by the end of it. Well done
Preschool and Reception have completed a 6 week programme where they have learnt to ride balance bikes safely. It has been great to see how their confidence has improved week by week. Thank you to Fleetwood Town for delivering these sessions.
I love it when we can introduce a new activity to the children. For many, this was the first time of them experiencing Curling and they loved it! Over the weeks, the children learnt the correct technique and began to accurately reach the target.
A Star sports have been working with Reception and Nursery on their fundamental movement skills. We have paid for them to also provide a lunch time club for our younger children and it has been a great success. We will continue to do this as long as we can.
Well done to everyone in keyboard lessons over the last term. It is great to hear the progress you are making!
If you are interested in your son/ daughter learning how to play the keyboard, please speak to Mrs Hogarth

Week 1- design and make a vehicle that can go down a ramp and transport 2 passengers safely .
The children loved getting creative and working out how to safely transport their 2 passengers- 3 groups managed the full brief. A great start to STEM club. Next week may be a messy one!
Week 2- Making a volcano- the only resources that the children could use were one plastic bottle, scrap paper, glue and water. Next week we will hopefully make them erupt.
Week 3- Making the volcano erupt. Water experiment to show how heat rises.
Week 4 - Water Week - creating a volcano, making a paperclip float and creating a vessel to keep 2 small plastic teddies safe whilst on water.
Board Games Club
The children have the opportunity to play a range of different games during this club.

Tag Rugby
The children had a fantastic session with their rugby coach on Wednesday night. They learnt lots of skills throughout the session and listened carefully to advice.
Football
Well done to our school football team, tonight they played 3 matches against other local primary schools. The weather wasn't the best but that didn't dampen their spirits. We are very proud of you all for the effort that you put in.
