Grammar in the outdoors
Today we took our learning outside. Some of the children went and hid words in the outdoor area. The children then had to run and collect a word and put it in the correct hoop - thinking about whether it is a noun, verb or adjective. Making learning fun and active helps the children to retain the information.
History of Houses
Class 1 have been learning about houses in the past. Today, the children explored Tudor houses and learned how they were built, including the use of wooden frames and wattle and daub. Some of the children had the opportunity to try making wattle themselves and enjoyed weaving the sticks together. However, when they discovered what the daub was traditionally made from, a few decided they would rather not add that part! The session sparked lots of interest and curiosity and helped the children gain a hands-on understanding of how people lived in the past.
Practical Maths
Class 1 enjoy learning maths through practical activities. Today, the children were learning about fractions and took part in a fraction hunt, searching for different fractional parts. They then worked together to bring the fractions back and combine them to make a whole. The activity helped the children develop their understanding of how fractions fit together and they were enthusiastic and engaged throughout the lesson.
